Casey Miller

 

Hello! I'm a designer and fabricator, primarily working with puppets, props, kinetic sculpture, and mechanisms; I currently work as a Soft Goods Model Maker at LAIKA Studios in Hillsboro, OR. I've designed and built puppets for the Muppets, Sesame Street, Hong Kong Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and many other clients. In the past I have been a regular contractor at Puppet Heap in Hoboken, NJ and at the Jim Henson Company in both New York City and Burbank, CA. At these shops I have had the opportunity to be involved in virtually every aspect of design and creation. Because much of my experience has been in small shops, I have developed a well-rounded skill set that includes (but is not limited to):

 

  • character design with Illustrator, Photoshop, and Painter

  • mold-making and casting

  • foam patterning, carving, and fabrication

  • draping puppet skins and costumes

  • dying and treating furs and fabrics

  • mech design and construction

  • clay sculpting

  • digital modeling and texturing with Cinema 4D and ZBrush

  • 3D-printing with industrial machines

  • surface finishing and painting

  • hand and machine sewing

  • Machine embroidery

  • Fabric printing
